This project aims to equip women with versatile digital skills, empowering them to leverage the attained skills to enhance their businesses and daily lives. By enhancing operational efficiency and productivity at both business and household levels, the initiative contributes to economic growth and development.

The project specifically focuses on increasing ICT uptake among women in rural and sub-urban areas, raising awareness about the necessity of smartphones, and reducing digital illiteracy within targeted districts. Targeting women in the informal sector who possess limited or no digital literacy skills, the program seeks to address the unique needs of diverse groups, including church congregations, SACCOs, and business associations. With customized content and a comprehensive training approach, the project endeavors to train over 1,400 women across seven districts, ensuring sustainable skill development and long-term impact.

Problem

Many women in rural or sub-urban communities lack essential digital literacy skills, limiting their ability to leverage enhance business productivity and improve their economic prospects. This digital divide is particularly pronounced among women in the informal sector, who often have limited access to ICT tools and resources. The lack of awareness regarding the importance of smartphones and the high levels of digital illiteracy further exacerbate their exclusion from the benefits of digital connectivity and economic participation.

Solution

To address these challenges, the project implemented a series of strategic actions, including:

Content Customization: Tailoring training content to meet the specific needs of women in each district, considering cultural, language, and other orientations.
Training Implementation: Delivering digital literacy training to over 1,400 women, with a minimum of 130 participants from each of the seven districts. This involves a combination of physical and online training, supported by liaison with and training of trainers (TOT).
Establishing Access Mechanism: Creating a structured framework to facilitate post-training access to training content through various digital assets, ensuring sustainable learning and skill development for the beneficiaries.

Target beneficiaries

The primary target beneficiaries are women within the informal sector who possess limited or no digital literacy skills. This includes diverse groups such as church congregations, Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs), business groups and associations, Village Savings and Loans Associations, and other community-based organizations. The project focuses on equipping these women with the necessary digital skills to enhance their economic opportunities and improve their overall quality of life.
